MEANINGLESS WORDS?

Image
Subscribe  In our daily dealings, we are surrounded by colloquial religious and cultural language that, for the majority of people on both sides of the conversation, is meaningless. Phrases like “Oh my God,” “It’s God’s plan,” “May God bless you,” “May God repay you,” “Peace be upon you,” “Peace,” and many, many other idioms, expressions, and slang like these are continuously thrown into our conversations for all types of reasons. My question to you is: Is this language colloquial language, the result of religion spreading into our normal lives, or both? It seems that there is no activity in our daily personal, and sometimes even professional, life where we are not faced with some of these expressions. They are prevalent in some people’s commonly used language and, definitely, in some cultures. These expressions are just part of their everyday jargon and are used mainly to express surprise, shock, alarm, anger, dismay, annoyance, disbelief, frustration, and/or desperati...

BIOLOGICAL OR SPIRITUAL BEINGS?

Image
Subscribe  A question that has puzzled humans for centuries and that has as many answers as schools of thought and/or people is: “Are we biological or spiritual beings?” The answer probably lies on the degree of spirituality of the responder. I would argue that the majority would believe that they are both, many would believe that they are just pure biological, and a few would see themselves as completely spiritual. This article will address this very question that has puzzled humanity for ages. Let’s start by clarifying a few concepts. Although most people do not live their lives with this existential mystery in mind; for most, this question has probably come up a few times during their lives. Unfortunately, in most cases, the answer to this question comes from some type of belief system or identification, and not from experience. When an answer comes from any other source than experience, then the answer may or may not be correct, but, in either case, it will not help...

IS SUCCESS REAL? (2ND PART)

Subscribe  Disciple: “Can you tell me more about the recipe?” Master: “If one looks at anything one has done regardless of the complexity, one can see the ingredients of this recipe in what was done. The recipe does not guarantee the results, but being aware of the recipe is important because it makes one aware of what is needed to do the best one can, potentially minimizing the risk of failure. This recipe is comprised of the following ingredients: determination, self-discipline, passion, patience, perseverance, hard work, and in some cases, skill. How good the end result is depends on the quantity and/or quality of each of these ingredients. This recipe applies to absolutely everything one does in life, whether it is sports, arts, business, or even life.” Disciple: “Can you elaborate, Sir?” Master: “For that, we need to look at each of the ingredients.  ‘Determination’ is the feeling or force that pushes one to persevere towards a difficult goal in spite ...

IS SUCCESS REAL?

Subscribe  Disciple: “Master, what does one need to achieve success…to be successful?” Master: “Can you grab with your hands the early morning mist?” Disciple: “No, master. It is not possible. I can feel it but I cannot grab it.” Master: “Success, and its opposite, failure, like the mist, can be experienced but cannot be attained.” Disciple: “I am completely lost, Master.” Master: “They are just judgements. They do not really exist. People, in their need to grade and judge, feel the need to apply a judgement to everything they do. It helps them to make sense of things. Success is applied when the results are as expected, positive, or beneficial to the individual(s) affected. Otherwise, failure is applied. Neither one exists. What someone calls success, someone else may call failure; and what someone calls failure, someone else may call success. Because of their subjective and completely impermanent nature, they cannot last. They are basically temporary, short-...
