What We Cultivate
We are careful about what we put into the things we value. We protect our homes. We choose what enters our bodies. We guard what we consider precious. Yet many of us leave one of the most sacred spaces completely unguarded: Our inner world. Our Mind.
Imagine an empty box. Fill it with jewelry, and it becomes a jewelry box. Fill that same box with garbage, and it becomes a trashcan. The box is the same. What it holds changes what it becomes.
Perhaps we are not so different.
Every day, we are taking something in. Words. Images. Music. Conversations. Opinions. The energy of people and places. Even the thoughts we repeatedly entertain. And none of it passes through us without leaving a trace.
Feed the mind continually with anger, envy, fear, judgment, hatred, and intolerance, and eventually they begin coloring the world we see. Nourish it with gratitude, kindness, forgiveness, humility, compassion, beauty, and love, and a different world begins to emerge.
Not necessarily because the world changed. Because something within us did.
What we repeatedly allow inside eventually begins to speak through us. It becomes our words. Our reactions. Our choices. The way we treat strangers. The way we love. The way we see ourselves. The way we experience life.
So, choose carefully what you allow through the doors of your senses and into the sanctuary of your mind. Not everything deserves entrance. Your attention is sacred. Guard it wisely. What you give it to, you give life to within yourself.
Feed your mind with what you want to grow. Feed peace. Compassion. Wonder. Truth. Love. Make your inner world a place where kindness can grow, forgiveness can breathe, peace can take root, and love can feel at home.
Then carry what you have cultivated within you into the world. Because sooner or later, what we repeatedly take in becomes what we carry. What we carry becomes what we give. And what we give becomes part of the world someone else must live in.
So, fill yourself carefully. Fill yourself beautifully. Protect what is sacred. Feed the light within. For what we cultivate in the silence of our inner world eventually becomes our offering to the world around us.
