When Reasons Become Walls
Your reasons may be legitimate. Your childhood may have been painful. You may have grown up without the love you needed. You may have been abandoned, betrayed, abused, rejected, or wounded by people you trusted.
None of that should be dismissed. Your pain is real. Your story matters. Healing does not require pretending that what happened did not hurt.
But there is another truth: Your pain and your potential can live within the same person. The question is which one you will allow to write the rest of your story.
Every morning, life quietly places that choice before you. You can carry the past as an explanation for where you are, or transform it into wisdom for where you are going.
Perhaps the most dangerous excuses are not the ones that are false, but the ones that are completely true. Because when our reasons are valid, we can defend them forever. Others may understand. They may sympathize. They may even agree that we have every reason to remain exactly where we are.
But understanding alone cannot build your future. Sympathy cannot rewrite yesterday. And validation, however important, cannot create a different tomorrow.
At some point, healing asks something more of us. What happened to you may not have been your choice. But what you do with what happened is yours to choose. And that is where your freedom begins.
The same wound can become a prison or a doorway. Pain can harden us or deepen us. It can close the heart or open it to a compassion we could never have understood before.
Your scars do not have to become your identity. The past may have shaped you, but it does not own you. So, honor what happened. Grieve what was lost. Forgive when you are ready. Heal at your own pace. But do not hand yesterday the pen with which tomorrow will be written.
This is your life. Precious. Temporary. Unrepeatable. And every morning you awaken, life places another blank page before you. What will you write on it? Will you continue allowing what happened yesterday to decide who you are today? Or will you take the pen back?
Your wounds may explain parts of who you became, but they do not have the authority to decide who you become next. The past has already had its turn. The rest of the story belongs to you. Take the pen in your hands. Write with courage. Write with love. And never stop believing that the most beautiful chapters of your life may still be waiting to be written.
