Trust Your Wings

"A bird sitting on a tree is never afraid of the branch breaking, because its trust is not in the branch, but in its own wings." - Charlie Wardle.

There is a profound wisdom hidden in these words.

The bird does not place its security in the branch. It does not spend its days worrying whether the wind will blow, whether the tree will bend, or whether the branch will hold. Its confidence comes from something deeper. It trusts what it already carries within itself.

Human beings often live differently.

We place our trust in branches. A job. A relationship. A bank account. A title. A plan for the future. We tell ourselves that when these things are secure, we will finally feel safe. Yet life has a way of reminding us that every branch is temporary. Circumstances change. Relationships evolve. Careers end. Plans unravel. What seems permanent today may be gone tomorrow.

And so, we live in fear, not because life is uncertain, but because we have forgotten where to place our trust.

Animals live close to their nature. We often live inside our thoughts. We become lost in stories of failure, insecurity, doubt, fear, and imagined futures. We forget the intelligence that already exists within us.

Yet beneath the noise of the mind, something remains unchanged.

You have survived every challenge that has brought you here. You have learned, adapted, healed, rebuilt, and grown. You carry within you far more strength, creativity, resilience, and wisdom than you realize.

The branch was never your security. Your ability to respond is.

Your ability to learn, to create, to begin again, to stand up after falling, and to find a path where none seemed to exist. These are your wings.

But there is something more.

Beyond trusting yourself is learning to trust life. Not because life always unfolds according to your plans, but because it continually invites growth through every experience. Again and again, what once seemed impossible becomes manageable. What once felt like an ending becomes a beginning. What once appeared as an obstacle reveals itself as part of the path.

Faith is not believing that nothing will ever go wrong. Faith is knowing that whatever comes, you will meet it, learn from it, and move through it… trusting that, in the end, all will be well.

And perhaps that is what freedom really is: not trusting that the branch will never break, but remembering that you were born to fly.
