The Noise We No Longer Notice
We live surrounded by noise, yet rarely notice it. Conversations, traffic, notifications, music, machines, an endless stream of sound fills our days. From the moment we wake until we fall asleep, something is always speaking, calling, demanding attention, making noise. And when the world quiets, we quickly fill the space again.
The most subtle danger is not the noise itself, but our adaptation to it. We have become so accustomed to constant stimulation that silence feels foreign, almost uncomfortable. We no longer hear the noise because we have become part of it. And when silence appears, we instinctively create noise to fill it.
But there is another layer we often overlook. Beneath the external noise lies an even more persistent one, the inner noise. Thoughts that never rest. Judgments that arise uninvited. Memories replaying, futures being imagined. A constant internal dialogue that rarely pauses, even when everything around us is still.
This is where true exhaustion is born, not from the world, but from the inability to step out of this inner turbulence. We carry the noise with us wherever we go. We are not disturbed by life as much as we are disturbed by the endless movement within ourselves.
And yet, beyond all of this, there is something untouched. A quiet presence that does not come and go. It does not depend on circumstances, environments, or conditions. It is not created; it is revealed when everything else settles. This is the silence we are truly seeking.
Silence is not the absence of life. It is the space in which life can finally be experienced without distortion. In silence, we are no longer chasing experience; we are present for it.
To rediscover silence is to rediscover yourself, not the version shaped by noise, but the one that exists before it. Beneath the roles, beneath the expectations, beneath the endless doing, there is a stillness that has always been there.
The world may continue to grow louder. But something within you does not have to move with it.
There is a place within you that remains undisturbed, no matter how loud the world becomes. That place is not something you must create. It is something you must remember.
