The Privilege of Being Alive
Life, the greatest miracle, too often fades into the background noise of our busy days. Most people do not lose their lives all at once; they lose them one ordinary day at a time. Absorbed in their jobs, routines, ambitions, and endless to-do lists, carried away by their restless minds, they forget to notice the simple wonder of being alive. Some live as if life were a right. Others, as if it were a punishment. Few remember that life is a privilege.
When we forget this, the magic of existence begins to vanish. We get caught in the trees and lose sight of the beauty and majesty of the forest. We confuse motion with meaning, habit with purpose, and we live half-asleep, sometimes entirely asleep, inside the very gift we were given to experience fully.
Imagine if someone offered you a million dollars. Would you take it? Most people would. Many of your current burdens could be lifted with that money. Now imagine they offer you not one, but ten million, with one condition: you will not wake up tomorrow. Would you still take it?
Almost everyone would say no. Which means your life, in your own heart, is worth more than ten million dollars. If so, you are already rich beyond measure, no matter your circumstances. The question is, why aren’t you living like a millionaire?
No matter your struggles, your circumstances, or your past, you woke up today, and that alone is extraordinary. You get to feel the warmth of the sun, the wind on your skin, the laughter of children, the kindness of a friend, the rhythm of your heartbeat. You get another chance to laugh, to love, to learn, to forgive, to grow.
To be alive is not random. It is sacred. It is a privilege. Every breath is a silent agreement between your soul and existence itself. Gratitude turns ordinary moments into blessings. Awareness turns routine into reverence. Love turns dullness into color.
So, breathe deeply. Feel deeply. Live deeply. Let life move through you in all its beauty, chaos, and grace. Stop waiting for perfect moments and see the perfection in the one you are in.
Because one day, the ride will end. And when it does, may you look back with a smile, your spirit whispering with peace and wonder: what a beautiful and miraculous ride it has been.
