The Disease of Excuses

There’s a silent voice that whispers inside many of us: “It’s not my fault… it’s not my responsibility.” This voice has a name: excusitis. It's not a term you’ll find in medical books, but it's a condition deeply rooted in the human experience. It’s a subtle but persistent condition where excuses spill out of us in every direction, often without us even realizing.

Excuses are comfortable. They protect our egos, shield us from discomfort, and keep us from confronting our own limitations. It’s far easier to justify, deflect, or blame than it is to pause, reflect, and take responsibility for what we did, where we are and who we are becoming. Instead of sitting with truth, we reach for a reason. Instead of facing ourselves, we explain ourselves away.

And yet, deep down, we know. We know what it would take to be a better partner, parent, child, sibling, friend, coworker, and human being on this Earth. We know what we’ve been avoiding. We know that growth calls to us… quietly, patiently.

But change requires something sacred: honesty, discipline, courage, and inner work. And most importantly, it requires love. Love for what we can become. Love for the people we affect. Love for the life that is waiting for us on the other side of our excuses.

We often say, “This is just who I am,” or “They need to accept me as I am.” But growth is not a rejection of who we are, it’s an act of defiance. It is the unfolding of the deeper self that has been buried beneath layers of fear and self-protection. Simply put: “Don’t think of the cost of changing, but the price you will pay if you won’t.”

There is a saying: Excuses make today easy, but tomorrow hard. Discipline makes today hard, but tomorrow easy.” So, here is the recipe: Passion is the fire, discipline the foundation, and love the sacred ingredient. And when you stir them with perseverance and hard work, you begin to cook something extraordinary, success in whatever you touch.

So, take a breath. Be honest, not perfect. Be willing, not hardened. The world doesn’t need more excuses. It needs awakened beings; people brave enough to rise beyond their patterns and embody the truth they carry inside.

Because beyond every excuse lies a truth. Beyond your resistance waits your rebirth. And beyond your comfort zone… your potential. You were not born to stay small. You were born to remember who you are. To rise, to heal, to walk with love, and to become a living expression of the divine potential within you. The path is open. The moment is now. And the choice is yours.

  1. "Don’t think of the cost of changing, but the price you will pay if you won’t" this resonates with me so much as I go through my journey of healing. Thank you, Maurice.
