DON’T LET IT AFFECT YOU
We are all going through some very interesting times. It
seems that the world is upside down and that everything is crazier than ever.
Not only are we experiencing a completely new way of life due to the COVID-19
pandemic but many are also feeling squeezed by the economic consequences of the
pandemic, the controversial political environment in which we are living, and
the social unrest and violence currently going on all around. It seems that
nothing can get done anymore, that our leaders are just puppets to higher
powers, that institutions we could rely upon before are not reliable anymore,
and that we, the people, do not count at all anymore. Yet no matter how bad it seems
to be, the solution is in our hands most of the time.
Most of us have been affected directly or indirectly by one
or more of these variables in some way or another, including our health,
finances, employment, and/or even freedom; and in many cases, the consequences
have been catastrophic. If we add to this the uncertainty of the near future
(although when is anything really certain?); the economic and political
instability; and the social discontent and unrest with what is happening all
around; then we have a gloomy picture that gets smashed on our faces all day
long by the sensationalistic and many times deceptive news and social media.
Although it seems that we are at the border of a revolution,
of a new order, and that things have gotten to a point of no return, nothing
has really changed that much. If you look back at history, humans have
experienced these and many other worse situations many times in the past. They
may not be exactly the same situations, but people have gone through many
similar and/or tremendously worse situations in the past. For instance, the 19th
and 20th century were consumed by plagues, wars, diseases, hunger, economic
hardships, etc. The difference now is the news media. We just have more
access to what is happening not just locally but worldwide, and it is coming to
us in a targeted form with an agenda. Keep in mind that to control the world’s
information is to manipulate all the minds that consume it.
Human history and each of us’ history has always been, and
will always be, filled with challenges. Life is changes and with changes come
challenges. This is the nature of life! So, it is best to realize and admit
this to yourself and start doing something about it now, not when this happens
or that happens because there will be always something happening. There
is no better time than right now! Start by realizing that your wellbeing and
happiness do not depend on the outside, on what is happening around you but on what
is happening inside you. Then you can go through all this without it affecting
you. Yes, many of these variables may have affected you directly or indirectly
in a harsh or a soft way, but as long as you realize that, you can move on,
embrace the new opportunities that will appear, and weather any challenges
regardless of the harshness and complexity without any judgement.
The key is to create a personal environment, a bubble per
se where you live, not according to the rules of what is happening outside but
to your own rules. It is a personal environment where you live according to
your morals, values and wishes, and is not dependent on the morals, values, and
wishes of society, the government, or the world. If you do that, if you are
able to live peacefully and happily in it, and if you apply this to your
household, work, and social life; it almost does not matter what politician is
elected, what party wins the election, how chaotic or negative society is, or
what is going around you or around the world.
The
change does not start outside of you. The change starts inside of you and
propagates outward with a ripple effect, like the pebble that falls on a still
lake, to touch the lives of everyone you come in contact with. Do not wait
for a change, be the change you want to see. Be a hand to the helpless, a
shoulder to the disconsolate, a pillar to the weak, and a fountain to the
thirsty. Be the light that you want to see in the world! Each of us can, one
life at the time, but you must start with yourself, from the inside toward the
outside.
